It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 6/10/13

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. I heard about it from the Teach Mentor Texts blog, which puts a "Picture Books to YA" twist on it. I like to post my MG/YA, adult, and professional reads here!
Last Week I Dived Into...
The Dinner by Herman Koch for my adult book club. It was promoted as the European Gone Girl (Gillian Flynn). I think that comparison ruined it for me. It was a good read, but the whole time I was trying to figure out some awesome surprise ending and ended up being disappointed.

I also read 11 Experiments That Failed  by Jenny Offill & Nancy Carpenter. What a unique read! Love the voice in this one.

This Week I'm Diving Into...
On Little Wings by Regina Sirois.

I am also listening to A Tale Dark and Grimm by Adam Gidwitz on audiobook.

I also want to get to I, Emma Freke  by Elizabeth Atkinson, Because of Mr. Terupt  by Bob Buyea, Amulet #1 The Stonekeeper  by Kazu Kibuishi and Nurse, Soldier, Spy  by Marissa Moss and John Hendrix.

And professionally, I'm still getting into Book Love by Penny Kittle.

It's Thirst Day! 5/16/13

Thirst Day is a meme started by Dave Etkin over at Eat the Book. He's got all kinds of fun stuff over there!

I'm not sure if the bike on the cover made me think of exercise, which made me think of sipping something healthy, but we are drinking a V8 with today's read, Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen. Check out Sarah talking about Along for the Ride below:

Happy Reading (and sipping)!

Last Week I Dived Into...
Sever (Chemical Garden #3) by Lauren Destefano. I love finishing trilogies, and this was a beautiful one.

I also finished Pathways to the Common Core by Lucy Calkins, Mary Ehrenworth, and Christopher Lehman. This is a must-read for all k-12 ELA teachers and literacy leaders.

This Week I'm Diving Into...
Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen. Sarah visited our school last week, and it was fabulous. Sarah was fabulous, our girls in the audience were fabulous, and the organization and planning by our librarian was fabulous. Check out Sarah's The Friday Five blog about her visit here.

For adult reads, I am reading another mystery from my favorite crime novel writer, Jo Nesbo called Nemesis.

And professionally, I'm starting Book Love by Penny Kittle. I can't think of a better way to end the school year than with this read!

This week we are color-coordinating! I'm diving into Sever (Chemical Garden #3) by Lauren Destefano and sipping a refreshing Sierra Mist! Ooh, it's even alliterative! Not sure I can top this pairing. We'll try next week!

Hello again!

I'm back and ready to blog again! Almost a month to the day of my last blog entry. No particular reason why! Exciting "life" things happening, but probably mostly due to what Donalyn Miller describes here. Refreshed and ready to read and reflect again!

Waiting on Wednesday 4/17/13 P.S. Be Eleven by Rita Williams-Garcia

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where you highlight one book that you can't wait to hit the bookshelves!

I can't wait for P.S. Be Eleven  by Rita Williams-Garcia to be released on May 21st. I enjoyed the first book, One Crazy Summer when it was on a past Rebecca Caudill nominee list. Looking forward to seeing where the girls' lives have taken them!

Happy Reading!

This Week I'm Diving Into...
Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys. I'm happy to be back to fiction after a diet of nonfiction for several weeks.

I'm also finishing The Language of Flowers for my book club. Love, love, love this beautiful book.

This Week I'm Diving Into...
Bomb: The Race to Build -- And Steal -- the World's Most Dangerous Weapon by Steve Sheinkin. Last week was a SLLLOOOWWW reading week for me, so I am still working on this one.

My adult book club is reading The Language of Flowers which I had been eyeing at the bookstore, but I've been trying to cut back on buying (adult) books so I never picked it up. And the wait-list at the library on this one was 30+, but I got my hands on a copy (my lips are sealed as to how...but it's totally legal. Swear.) I'm loving this one so far! I think we'll have a lot to talk about when we get together for this one!

After Bomb, I hope to get into Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys. Just look at that cover.

Also, these PD books....

This week I'm still getting into Bomb: The Race to Build -- and Steal -- the World's Most Dangerous Weapon by Steve Sheinkin and sipping some water! The book is so exciting, I have to keep the drink tame.

Last Week I Dived Into...

Trapped by Marc Aronson, about the 33 Chilean miners who were trapped for 69 days. It was a super-fast read (1 sitting) and my heart was about to beat out of my chest when that drill first reached the miners.

I also finished Marching for Freedom by Elizabeth Partridge. It had beautiful photographs chronicling the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. A powerful read.

I also finished Tana French's Faithful Place, an adult read from one of my favorite murder-mystery writers. She builds such rich characters and relationships, plus it's all set in Ireland. A great read for a cold winter night.

This Week I'm Diving Into...
Bomb: The Race to Build -- And Steal -- the World's Most Dangerous Weapon by Steve Sheinkin. It recently won a bunch of ALA awards, and from the first chapter, I was hooked.

Then, whatever pops up on my radar next.

Also, these PD books....
